High atop the town of Hobart, Tasmania lies Mt. Wellington (kunanyi). The Pinnacle Track dates back to the 1800s, when residents sourced ice from atop the mountain. As this trail has seen over 165 years of foot traffic, it has required a great deal of upkeep. Along with several other crews, our recent work marks the most robust refurbishment in its history, building stone steps and pathways to modern engineering specifications.
A main consideration of trail building is erosion mitigation. Given the high precipitation and increased tourist activity, armoring the trail with stone offers the greatest longevity. Stones are placed deep into the ground and tightly packed together so that nothing will budge. Whether you are considering walling, paving or steps, Newgrange Stonework builds to a standard that will last generations.
Tell us about your outdoor space and we'll get back to you about what a dry stone build could look like.
